Love this idea. Although hardware solutions are a bit of a challenge, and rather expensive, this one provides an excellent solution to a number of problems. I bet banks could get people to pay for it (maybe at a subsidized rate) if it was also a secure 4GB storage stick.

Visa Questions Phones as Payment Tools -... →
Interesting perspective, and I think a true one, that use of mobile for payments will vary by nation based on how sophisticated the current payments infrastructure is. That being said, it seems the consumer demand side of the equation will ultimately decide how successful mobile based payments will be, and it seems that increasingly consumers rely more and more on mobile devices.

Authentication Possibilities
I decided to play around with Loopt and they have a really cool authentication scheme. I signed up for the service (which is a mobile phone based location awareness service) which includes my phone number, and received a SMS with a link to access in the mobile browser (I’m using the iPhone). As soon as you click the browser link, the Loopt page immediately refreshes with a picture, while the...

This is a great look at how the financial situation/economy is impacting not just banks, but the a whole sector of industry, and not in a completely negative way. There are opportunities for success, and congratualtions to Andera for being positioned to capture one of those.

I never really grokked Bill Me Later, but there do seem to be synergies with PayPal, in terms of the value prop of not sharing financial information with every merchant. Will be interesting to see what PayPal/eBay does with it.
